The American Solar Challenge (ASC) is a competition to design, build and race solar-powered cars in a cross-country event. The ASC seeks to promote and celebrate educational excellence and engineering creativity. Fueled by the spirit of friendly competition and teamwork, the ASC champions the creative integration of technical and scientific expertise across a range of exciting disciplines. Missions of the ASC include: — The support and encouragement of bright young minds to succeed in the fields of engineering, the sciences, mathematics, business, in multi-disciplined experiential learning, and in subsequent careers. — The creation of public awareness and enthusiasm, both for education excellence and engineering creativity itself, and for the technologies and practices that emerge from that excellence. ASC promotes: — A greater understanding of solar energy technology, its environmental benefits and its promise for the future; — Educational excellence in science, engineering and mathematics—and the creative integration of technical and scientific expertise across a range of disciplines; — And, A “hands-on” opportunity for students and engineers to develop and demonstrate their technical and creative abilities
