STEM Champion Spotlight: Rosminazuin Ab Rahim

IEEE Volunteers are dedicated to a variety of engineering outreach initiatives. Specifically, many participate in outreach programs aimed at supporting STEM in pre-university students. Dr. Rosminazuin Ab Rahim was a 2021 STEM Champion from the Malaysia section (R10) dedicated to many such programs.

“As an IEEE STEM Ambassador for Region 10, my inspiration in conducting STEM outreach always goes to young children who are always curious to explore new things around them,” Ab Rahim shared with the IEEE Region 10 Connect Newsletter at the time she was selected as a STEM Ambassador. “This includes marginalized children who are often being left out from the mainstream educational and social opportunities. Through the presence of IEEE volunteers in STEM outreach among these disadvantaged children, I strongly believe that we can offer an infinite world of possibilities through STEM and indirectly deliver the message that they matter to us. We hope our small contribution through STEM outreach will create big impacts in their lives.”

In particular, Ab Rahim is most proud of her Electronics Magic! program she led.

“Electronics Magic, as the name suggests, is a STEM outreach program intended to bring the wonderful world of electronics to young children, especially those from underrepresented groups who are often being left out from the mainstream educational and social opportunities,” Ab Rahim stated when recently asked about her involvement in pre-university STEM outreach. “Regardless of their backgrounds, these children are always curious to explore new things around them. Through the presence of IEEE volunteers in STEM outreach among these disadvantaged children, I strongly believe that we can offer an infinite world of possibilities through STEM as well as indirectly deliver the message that they matter to us. We hope our small contribution through STEM outreach will create big impacts in their lives.”

Ab Rahim credited STEM volunteers from around the world when asked what the most rewarding aspect of her STEM outreach was.

“The most rewarding part is definitely the opportunities to be engaged with all IEEE STEM volunteers around the world for networking and experience sharing because together, we can do wonders,” she stated.
