Are you an educator in Europe? Do you want to help your students understand the connection between what they learn in class and how it can be used in the real world? The 2022 STEM Alliance – IBM Competition: Integrating IBM SkillsBuild for Students and Educators is designed to help you do just that! The competition calls on teachers to develop Lesson Plans that integrate IBM SkillsBuild modules in class and connect them to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
“The main goal is to familiarise students with the connection between their school subjects and prospective STEM careers and competencies required for pursuing them,” the competition stated in a news release. “The focus lies on the connection between STEM subjects and career readiness as well as workplace skills.”
The IBM SkillsBuild for Students and Educators platform is a free online platform created with verified open source and customized learning content. Using text, video and gamified assessments for engaging students, the platform is designed to enhance the STEM and work-related curriculum for students aged 14 and up. It also provides professional development opportunities for their teachers, along with content curation tools and a dashboard for tracking student progress.
The competition provides a template for creating your lesson plan, as well as resources to help you. You must submit your entry for one of three categories: Digital Literacy, Mindfulness and Professional Skills. After the competition, the best Lesson Plans will be published as examples for other educators. Prizes are also available as vouchers educators can use to purchase STEM equipment in their schools.
