Let’s talk about some of the coolest inventions that were invented by kids! These child inventors have proven that you can be an engineer at any age, all you need is an idea, and the motivation to bring it to life.
These inventions have been around for decades and to this day are still as popular! Check out this article to see the full list of the coolest kid inventions.
Toy Trucks
Did you know that one of the most adored children’s’ toys was created by a young boy?! At just six years old, Robert Patch was granted the patent for the toy truck. He made the very first toy truck out of cardboard boxes and bottle caps, and it even transformed to other vehicles, almost like an early transformer.
Can you find some materials in your house and make a toy vehicle? Whether it be a firetruck, a race car, or a train, invent a new way to make it!
The Trampoline
Did you know that the trampoline was invented by a 16 year-old-boy? George Nissen was inspired by watching trapeze artists fall onto safety nets, and thought it would be so much cooler if they could bounce instead. So he did just that, and created the trampoline which is essentially a net that you can bounce on!
This year marked its 90th anniversary, as it was invented in 1930, and to this day it’s still so much fun! What are some other ways that you can make a trampoline?
Earmuffs
Without this 15-year-old boy’s genius idea, all of our ears would be frozen during the winter! In 1877, Chester Greenwood was tired of having cold ears in the winter, so he decided to put something warm over them to protect them from the frigid temperatures. Using a wire frame and his grandmother’s help to sew beaver skin together, he invented the very first pair of what we know today as earmuffs!
Even cooler, his earmuffs were a hit for the soldiers of World War I, nice job Chester! Can you think of any innovative ways to make earmuffs?
