STEM outreach at the Pre-University level is a critical part of generating university-level and career interest in engineering. To develop an interest in STEM from students, it is critical that we have engaged and well-prepared educators to facilitate this process.
Graceann Griffin is a PreK-6 STEAM teacher in the US. She is passionate about getting others on board to see the value in STEM education and changing the mindset around how to approach it.
“I feel [STEM] provides children with the ability to think outside the box,” stated Griffin when recently asked about her perspective on STEM education. “It gives them a chance to problem solve, communicate, and evaluate their own thinking. It challenges them and teaches persistence. Children learn best through discovery. I provide them a platform to make mistakes and think divergently.”
Griffin was introduced to TryEngineering.org at a teacher workshop. She has since found great value in using the lesson plans and content from the website when creating her own lesson plans for her students.
