It’s Time To Celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development! (10 November)

For thousands of years, science and technology have played a huge role in shaping humanity’s future. Going forward, they will help humanity fight its biggest fight yet: climate change.

While renewable technologies like solar and wind will be vital to helping us reduce carbon emissions, there are some big obstacles to integrating them into electric grids. One major challenge is that these technologies are not yet advanced enough to handle power outages caused by natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. Advancements in renewable technology and artificial technology are expected to help solve this. To make these technologies a reality, however, the public needs to be more aware of their significance.

Want to raise awareness around the importance of renewables and other important technologies? Join World Science Day for Peace and Development! According to UNESCO, World Science Day has four major goals:

  • Strengthen public awareness on the role of science for peaceful and sustainable societies
  • Promote national and international solidarity for shared science between countries
  • Renew national and international commitment for the use of science for the benefit of society
  • Draw attention to the challenges faced by science and raise support for the scientific endeavor

World Science Day for Peace and Development 20201: Building Climate-Ready Communities

Now in its 20th year, the theme of World Science Day for Peace and Development 2021 is “Building Climate-Ready Communities.”

“With climate change becoming a serious threat to the lives of billions of people and the planet, this year’s celebration will highlight the importance of Building Climate-Ready Communities,” states the UN. “The objective is to bring science closer to society by highlighting some key scientific aspects and possible solutions provided by science, technology and innovation to some of the major global challenges society is facing today”

The event will focus on the findings from the UNESCO Science Report and will include a virtual event titled “Building climate-ready communities.” Learn more or register here.  To raise awareness of social media, use the hashtag #ScienceDay.
