Teach Engineering Through Simple & Engaging Activities
Explore IEEE Try Engineering’s database of lesson plans to teach engineering concepts to your students, aged 4 to 18. Explore areas such as lasers, LED lights, flight, smart buildings, and more through our activities. All lesson plans are provided by teachers like you and are peer reviewed.
Our lesson plans are easy to use and include student handouts and worksheets to print out. Select a category or an age range below to find lessons suitable for your students. If you have used any of our lessons, we want your feedback so please complete the survey below.
IEEE REACH offers a one-stop shop of resources that bring to life the history of technology and engineering in the classroom. Resources include: inquiry units, primary and secondary sources, hands-on-activities, and multimedia sources (video and audio). The units have 9 themes: agriculture, manufacturing, materials & structures, energy, communication, transportation, information processing, medicine & healthcare, and warfare.

Lesson focuses on the engineering behind building framing for structures, and explores examples of geodesic domes and other buildings. Students work in teams to design and build a small dome...
Lesson focuses on exploring how the development of seismographs has helped save lives around the world. Students work in teams to design their own seismograph out of everyday items, and...
Lesson focuses on how engineers develop pipeline systems to transport oil, water, gas, and other materials over very long distances. Students work in teams of "engineers" to develop a pipeline...
Simple machines: their principles and uses.
Lesson focuses on brakes, force, and friction, using bicycle rim brakes to demonstrate basic braking mechanisms to stop, slow, or prevent motion.
Lesson focuses on graphene and its electrical properties and applications. Students learn about nanotechnology and how engineers can harness the differences in how materials behave when small to address challenges...
“Learn to appreciate failures as much as you do the successes and never give up an opportunity to experiment or try something new.”
Systems and Software...
Think about the world around you: airplanes, automobiles, electricity, cell phones, medications … even a bottle of water – everything man-made has been designed by...
