Michigan Technological University Summer Youth Programs (SYP) has been providing hands-on camps since 1972 to help excite students about education, especially in STEM-related fields. Our SYP explorations are available for current 6th-11th grade students. SYP offers both live-in or commuter-based camps, and programs are separated into middle school (6th-8th grade) and high school (9th-11th grade) sessions. We also have Competitive Scholarship Programs for academically high-achieving young people. We focus on utilizing world class campus facilities and faculty to provide students with a dynamic  learning experience that compliments what students are learning during the academic year.

During the summer, more than one thousand participants come to our campus from all over the nation and the world for discovery-based learning. University faculty, graduate students, role models, and other professionals lead hands-on activities, field trips, laboratory experiments, and team projects. Each program is designed to challenge participants and encourage them to explore a world of opportunities.

Students can choose from over 45 explorations each summer in different fields of interest (Business, Computing, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Outdoor Adventures, and Science and Technology.) In addition to exploring a field of interest, students also get to enjoy evening activities and experience college life for a week: live in the residence halls, have a roommate, enjoy campus dining, and much more.
