This document is a collaborative product of the San Antonio Electromagnetic Defense (SA-EMD), Domestic Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Working Group. Opinions, conclusions, and recommendations expressed or implied within are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the views of the Department of Defense, the United States Air Force, Air Education and Training Command, the Department of Homeland Security, or any other US government agency. The Domestic Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (DEMSO) Work Group is one of four work groups chartered through SAEMD, to increase military and civilian resiliency to electromagnetic events.

Electromagnetic resiliency increases survivability and mitigates the effects of an electromagnetic event on San Antonio. The Domestic Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (DEMSO) Resiliency Guide addresses highaltitude electromagnetic pulses (HEMP) and destructive solar-induced geomagnetic disturbances (GMD) as emerging threats to San Antonio. Henry Newton is one of the 15 contributors.

Domestic Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (DEMSO) – Resiliency Guide

How do you use it?

Since it is only 49 pages of information that has no equations- it can be passed out to students or provided it as a small PDF.

Why do you like it?

I was one of the 15 writers for the first ever collaboration of Military folks and civilians. I am one of the civilians. The document is designed for the Community of San Antonio that consists of 7 military installations and civilians of the city. It was designed to be NOT to technical and to avoid a lot of military jargon. (eg for the Average Joe).

The goal of this phase one document is to promote Resiliency by providing the analysis of policy and education, and presenting the EMP/GMD Resiliency Maturity Model. But mostly – I like it very much since the “STEM Library Lab” has adopted the document and given it to the STEM teachers of 3 parishes.
