JigSpace

Augmented reality 3D cross-section model of Earth showing internal layers with a label identifying the glowing Inner Core.
Resource Type: Game
Engineering Discipline: Information Technology
Stem Field: Engineering Design

In this iOS app, teachers can launch their students into action as augmented reality explorers and spatial designers as they inspect complex machines, scientific inventions, and historical artifacts in 3D. Using JigSpace, students project interactive augmented reality models—called Jigs—directly onto their real-world environment to examine step-by-step exploded diagrams and explanatory text. As students walk around virtual objects, observe working mechanical components, and analyze multi-stage animations, they get to visualize spatial relationships, test functional theories, and supercharge their engineering curiosity through hands-on AR investigation.

Learners will:

  • Analyze 3D augmented reality models and exploded diagrams to understand the inner workings of complex machines and systems.

  • Navigate interactive, multi-step spatial presentations to connect detailed visual animations with explanatory text.

  • Investigate physical structures, inventions, and spatial mechanics from multiple angles within a real-world environment.
