Our TryEngineering social media challenges continue! Our third challenge focused on an exciting new initiative, the IEEE TryEngineering Global Classroom Visits. Global Classroom Visits is bringing together today’s engineers and technical professionals with students and classrooms around the globe. This program is a way for educators to virtually invite an engineer into their classrooms to give school-aged and pre-university students a better understanding of what it means to be an engineer.
For the challenge, we asked our STEM Champions and Volunteers to begin their registration for Global Classroom Visits by creating their Engineer profile, and then comment on our Facebook and LinkedIn challenge announcement post stating “I am an Engineer in Global Classroom Visits.”
The Facebook winner is… Sean P Denny!
Sean Denny is a STEM Champion in Region 3, IEEE Florida West Coast Section. Sean began his STEM outreach career as a Teacher In Service Chair in 2005, receiving his training in Atlanta. He has supported local schools through various initiatives, including Professional Study Days, the Great American Teach-In, and the Engineering Educator Conferences in Orlando, Florida. In 2010, Sean joined the Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) chapter and has been serving as its chairman since 2015. While with RAS, he has actively supported FIRST Robotics and Robofest competitions. In 2022, Sean was elevated to the role of STEM Champion, and he is currently serving his third year.
When asked what inspired him to register for Global Classroom Visits, Sean stated “I believe in educating students and teachers to be future engineers. Therefore, Global Classroom visits would work well. I am setting up my first activity at a STEM Day at a local college campus on October 8 for this year.”
