  • Tips for Families: Connections Academy has an excellent article: Tips to Support Success for K-12 Students and Families. Experts in teaching students who learn from home, Connections Academy educators share their tips for student success and learning at home.
  • STEM Curriculum: Kahn Academy’s library of trusted, standards-aligned practice and lessons covers math K-12 through early college, grammar, science, history, AP®, SAT®, and more. It’s all free for learners and teachers. Students practice at their own pace, first filling in gaps in their understanding and then accelerating their learning.   • Learn a New Skill: Now is a good time to learn a new skill. DIY has huge library of courses where students can learn new skills in areas such as: engineering, art, fitness, adventure, science, making and design. Each course includes hands-on projects and how-to videos. DIY also has an awesome kid community. It has a 14 day free trial.  Also check out TinkerCad to learn computer aided design (CAD) and Scratch to learn how to block code.
  • Take a College Course: Taking college courses for free is a great option for older students. There are many free college course available at this time including from many of the Ivy League universities.
  • Hands-on Design Challenges: For some fun hands-on engineering design challenges, that use materials you can find at home, check out Global Design Squad, TryEngineering Engineering Lesson Plan ToolKit, and Engineering Tomorrow Virtual Instagram Challenges.
  • Virtual Field Trips: Virtual Field Trips are a fun way to engage kids while at home. There are many great museums, zoos, aquariums, and theme parks with virtual tours.
  • Invention Video Series: Watch The Henry Ford emmy award-winning, Invention Nation, with Mo Rocca. Catch up on 6 seasons of Invention Nation, that showcase present day change-makers from all over the world who are creating solutions to real needs. It would be great to watch one or two shows a week and then discuss as a family.
  • Coronavirus Science Lessons: NSTA and Exploratorium have created lessons around the science of the coronavirus.
  • Inquiry Project: With an inquiry project (also called passion project or curiosity project), students choose something they are interested in or something that sparks curiosity and then they research it and create a project to share what they learned.
