Are you interested in a career where you get to develop or work with technology that improves health and saves lives? Then biomedical engineering and medical imaging could be the career path you want to be on.

What is Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical engineering is a field that focuses on innovating new technologies that improve human health. Examples include medical equipment software, ultrasounds, prosthetics, and systems that monitor vitals like blood and respiration. Biomedical engineers are professionals who develop these systems.

What is Medical Imaging?

Medical imaging is an imaging technique that allows medical professionals to peer into the inner workings of the human body. Using this technology, doctors can get a close-up view of a person’s organs, bones, tissues, and more in order to investigate potential diseases, make diagnoses, and determine what remedies are needed. Examples of medical imaging devices include X-rays, ultrasounds, radiography, nuclear medicine, and magnetic resonance imaging. Without these innovative technologies, modern medicine as we know it would be next to impossible.

Medical imaging professionals are commonly known as radiologists – medical doctors who are skilled in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases.

Explore the June issue of TryEngineering Tuesday: Featuring Biomedical Engineering & Medical Imaging

The June issue of TryEngineering Tuesday features an virtual event with Andrea Gonzalez Montoro, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Institute for Instrumentation in Molecular Imaging (I3M-CSIC), Valencia, Spain. Watch the on-demand recording as she shares her work in positron emission tomography.

Also known as PET scanning, this type of medical imaging uses radioactive substances to detect and measure certain physiological changes in the body. Originally held live on 7 June 2022, this special event was organized by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) and TryEngineering. Watch On Demand Now>>
