Goodbye 2022 and hello 2023! As we bring in the new year, why not also bring the amazing world of STEM into it as well?

There are so many ways to incorporate STEM activities into the celebration of the new year, so why not get a head start? What better way to celebrate the ball drop than your very own unveiling of an exciting experiment? These experiments all have to do with confetti and the celebratory ‘pop’ of the new year!

Follow along to draw inspiration for what you want to make to help celebrate 2023.

DIY Confetti Champagne

Let’s make a STEM version of a champagne pop when it’s time to celebrate. This colorful explosion won’t only be fun to watch, but it’s also fun to make! All you need is baking soda, vinegar, water, plastic party glasses, a turkey baster or eyedroppers, and confetti.

This step-by-step guide will walk you through exactly what to do to create this awesome confetti explosion. The best part about it is that you can set up the experiment but set it aside until you want it to explode!

Homemade Confetti Poppers

This experiment is a ton of fun to set off while also requiring minimal material and preparation. All that’s needed is a plastic bottle, a balloon, and confetti. Tape is recommended to protect any cuts from the rigid end, but is not required.

Instead of buying confetti, why not cut your own (with adult supervision) out of leftover wrapping paper, or other materials like printing paper? Go ahead and get creative with what your popper will pop out. If you don’t have any bottles, this confetti popper experiment uses toilet paper or paper towel rolls instead.

Enjoy your celebration! We wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
