The 2022 IEEE STEM Summit is an international event hosted by IEEE Educational Pre-University Activities virtually and for free. The theme of the IEEE STEM Summit is “Building Tomorrow’s Technical Community Today!”. This theme provides a springboard for STEM enthusiasts, educators, parents, and anyone interested in STEM professionally or voluntarily, to encourage, influence, and strengthen all pre-university students to explore the internal engineer and scientist that hides inside them. IEEE STEM Summit is happening on 6-10 December 2022, and its program consists of keynote speeches, invited speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and family activities. Ioannis N. Miaoulis.

This year, participants will have the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker Ioannis N. Miaoulis.

Science curricula in most K-12 schools worldwide still focus solely on the natural world, ignoring the engineered, human made world.  With the beginnings of the STEM movement in the mid 1990’s efforts started to include engineering into the K-12 curriculum, but this effort is by far not completed yet. Dr. Miaoulis will present the rationale of strengthening the E of STEM, the history of the effort, and his hopes for the future. Be sure to catch the presentation by Dr. Miaoulis at 10:15AM EST on Tuesday the 6th of December by registering for the IEEE STEM Summit today

A visionary leader in experiential learning and champion of STEM education, Ioannis N. Miaoulis will become the 11th president of Roger Williams University, guiding the mission and commitment to providing an outstanding education through community-engaged learning and civic scholarship.

Dr. Miaoulis previously served as President and Director of the Boston Museum of Science since 2003, introducing more than 1.5 million visitors a year to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. During his tenure, he raised the museum’s profile to an internationally acclaimed STEM education institution through fundraising efforts that included a $50 million gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies, which supported the creation of world-class exhibits, outreach programs, and innovative educational initiatives. He led the development of the museum’s National Center for Technological Literacy (NCTL), advancing the knowledge of engineering and technology through K-12 curricula programs that have reached an estimated 200,000 teachers and 18 million students.
