Michigan Tech Youth Programs

Houghton, United States
Target Applicant:

Michigan Technological University Youth Programs has been providing Summer Programs since 1972 to help excite students about education, especially in STEM related fields. Our 6th – 8th grade Summer Camps, 9th – 11th grade Career and Adventure Explorations, 9th - 11th grade Competitive Scholarship Programs, and 10th-11th grade Courses for College Credit provide an intensive week-long look at a particular field or area of interest, working with students from around the country and world, all while living on the campus of a level 1 research university. We focus on utilizing world class campus facilities and faculty to provide students with a dynamic hands-on learning experience that compliments what students are learning during the academic year.

During the summer, more than one thousand participants come to our campus from all over the nation and the world for discovery-based learning. University faculty, graduate students, role models, and other professionals lead hands-on activities, field trips, laboratory experiments, and team projects. Each program is designed to challenge participants and encourage them to explore a world of opportunities.

Students have the opportunity to explore over 70 explorations each summer in 6 different fields of interest (Business, Computing, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Outdoor and Environmental Studies, and Science and Technology.) In addition to exploring a field of interest, students also get to enjoy evening activities and experience college life for a week (or multiple weeks if they choose).

Programs are separated into:
* 6th - 8th grade Summer Camps
* 9th - 11th grade Career and Adventure Programs
* 9th - 11th grade Competitive Scholarship Programs
* 10th - 11th grade Courses for College Credit
